ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is focused on understanding a tragic condition called Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP), where epilepsy patients die suddenly for reasons that aren't clear. The study aims to create a registry in North America to gather information about these cases. If a family member has lost a loved one to SUDEP, they can contact the research team to participate. They will take part in a short phone interview about the person's history with epilepsy and seizures, as well as the circumstances surrounding their death. If the death occurred within the last 24 hours and the family is open to it, they may also consider donating tissue for further research.
To be eligible for this study, families must have lost someone diagnosed with epilepsy whose cause of death was sudden and unexplained. Additionally, there will be a control group of current epilepsy patients at the NYU Comprehensive Epilepsy Center who can also participate. Families will not have to pay for any medical records needed for the study, and all personal information will be kept completely private. This study is currently recruiting participants of all ages and genders.
