ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial, called "Suicide Treatment Alternatives for Teens," is studying the best ways to help teenagers who are experiencing suicidal thoughts or behaviors. The researchers want to compare two types of care: one where teens stay in the hospital (inpatient care) and another where they receive help in a special clinic (outpatient crisis intervention). They hope to enroll up to 1,000 participants over five years at four different locations.

To be eligible for this study, teens must be between 12 and 17 years old and have been taken to the emergency department because of suicidal thoughts or actions. They need to show that they require more support than what is typically offered, as determined by their healthcare provider. Participants will need permission from a legal guardian and should be able to understand and agree to the study's requirements. If a teen is at very high risk for suicide or needs constant supervision that can't be provided outside a hospital, they won't be able to join the study. This trial aims to find the most effective ways to support young people in crisis, and participants will receive care tailored to their needs throughout the process.
