ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, called CCR-VINCat, is looking at ways to reduce surgical site infections (SSIs) in patients undergoing elective colorectal surgery, such as surgery for colon or rectal cancer. Since 2007, hospitals in Catalonia have been monitoring these infections, and in 2016, they started using a special set of six preventative measures to help keep patients safe during and after surgery. The goal of this study is to see if these measures actually lower the rate of SSIs compared to before they were implemented.
To be eligible for this trial, patients need to be scheduled for elective colorectal surgery and should not have certain complications, like peritonitis (an infection in the abdominal cavity). Participants can expect to be part of a program that closely monitors their health after surgery for at least 30 days to catch any signs of infection early. The hospitals involved in this study are working together to ensure that they follow specific guidelines to keep their patients safe. Overall, this research aims to improve care and reduce infections for those undergoing colorectal surgery.
