ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how periodontal disease, which affects the gums and teeth, impacts patients with systemic sclerosis, a condition that affects the skin and internal organs. The researchers want to see how a specific dental treatment, called nonsurgical periodontal therapy (NSPT), affects gum health, levels of antioxidants in saliva, and certain biological markers found in the gum tissue of patients with systemic sclerosis compared to people without this condition who also have periodontal disease.
To participate in the study, you need to be at least 18 years old, have a diagnosis of both systemic sclerosis and periodontitis, and have at least 12 teeth. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, smoke cigarettes, or have certain other inflammatory diseases, you won't be eligible. If you join the trial, you’ll receive treatment for your gum disease and contribute to important research that could help understand how systemic sclerosis affects oral health. This study is currently recruiting participants, and all genders are welcome.
