ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the connection between levels of lithium in the body and the risk of suicidal behavior in people with major depressive disorder and bipolar disorder. Lithium is a medication often used to treat bipolar disorder and has shown promise in reducing suicidal thoughts and actions. The researchers want to see how natural variations in lithium levels, which can be influenced by diet and lifestyle, may affect mental health in individuals who are struggling with these conditions.
To participate in the study, individuals must be at least 18 years old and currently experiencing a major depressive episode. They should not have taken any lithium-based treatments in the past year. Those who have had suicidal thoughts or attempts in the last 12 months may also be eligible, while individuals who have not experienced such events will serve as a comparison group. Participants can expect to undergo assessments and contribute to important research that aims to improve our understanding of mental health and suicide prevention. It's important to note that certain individuals, such as those with specific mental health diagnoses or who are pregnant, may not be eligible for this trial.
