ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the effects of a special exercise program aimed at strengthening a muscle in the lower leg called the peroneus longus. This muscle helps with the movement of the foot, and if it isn't working properly, it can lead to a condition known as a dorsiflexed first ray, which affects how the foot functions during walking. The goal of the trial is to see if strengthening this muscle over a 4-week period can improve how the first ray works when you push off the ground while walking.
To participate in this study, individuals should be between the ages of 65 and 74 and have a flexible dorsiflexed first ray. However, those who have had foot injuries in the past year, previous foot surgery, or certain foot conditions like bunions are not eligible. Participants in the study will be placed into two groups: one group will receive instructions on exercises to strengthen the peroneus longus muscle, while the other group will not receive any treatment. The researchers will measure changes in pressure under the foot to see if the exercise program makes a difference. This trial is currently looking for volunteers, and anyone interested should consult with their healthcare provider for more details.
