ClinConnect Summary
The ESSAG trial is studying how offering a free self-sampling device (SSD) can help increase the number of women getting screened for cervical cancer. This is particularly focused on women aged 31 to 65 who haven’t had a cervical smear test in the last six years. The research will compare different ways of providing this self-sampling device, either through a personal visit from a general practitioner (GP) or by sending it through the mail. The goal is to see which method encourages more women to participate in screening.
To be eligible for this trial, women must be between 31 and 64 years old, live in Flanders, and not have had a cervical smear registered in the last six years. They also need to be registered patients with one of the participating GP practices. However, women who have had a hysterectomy, are pregnant, or have a history of cervical cancer cannot participate. If you join the trial, you can expect to receive the self-sampling device and assistance on how to use it, which can help ensure that you are screened for cervical cancer in a convenient way.
