ClinConnect Summary
This study is exploring different physiotherapy and related approaches to help people who suffer from tinnitus (ringing in the ears). It tests several options, including high- and low-power lasers, radio-frequency therapy, manual therapy for the jaw and neck, physical exercise, cognitive therapy, and lifestyle changes. The study uses eight therapy groups and is not randomized; participants are assigned to one specific approach. The main goals are to see if these methods can lower how loud or noticeable the tinnitus is (measured on a 0–10 scale) after about 3 months and whether tinnitus-related quality of life improves.
If you participate, you would have 2–3 sessions per week for up to 3 months, with each session lasting about 45 minutes. You’d complete questionnaires about tinnitus intensity and quality of life at the start and at the end of the study. Eligibility mostly includes adults aged 20–80 with tinnitus diagnosed as neurologically related and lasting more than 3 months; people with certain serious medical conditions, a history of head or neck trauma, cancer therapy, or ongoing psychological treatment are typically not eligible. The trial is based at Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, and results aren’t available yet. Enrollment is ongoing by invitation, with completion expected in 2025.
