ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking into whether being accidentally cooled down during surgery (called inadvertent perioperative hypothermia) affects the risk of developing infections at the surgery site after a laparoscopic cholecystectomy, which is a minimally invasive procedure to remove the gallbladder. Researchers have different opinions on this topic, and they want to find out more by studying 100 patients undergoing this surgery at a university hospital.
To participate in the trial, you need to be between 18 and 65 years old and have a low to moderate health risk (measured by something called an ASA score). You also need to be staying in the hospital for at least 24 hours after your surgery. If you are pregnant, have certain health conditions, or are having an emergency surgery, you won't be eligible. Participants will be randomly assigned to either a group that experiences the cooling effect or a control group, and they will be monitored to see if there is a difference in infection rates. This study aims to provide clearer answers about how body temperature during surgery might impact recovery and infection risks.
