ClinConnect Summary
This is an observational study at Sohag University Hospital in Egypt that will enroll about 100 people with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The researchers want to compare two groups: those diagnosed with SLE before age 50 (early onset) and those diagnosed at age 50 or older (late onset). They will look at patients’ symptoms and standard blood tests, including ways to measure inflammation and immune system activity, and they will use a lupus activity score (SLEDAI) to see how active the disease is. The goal is to understand whether these blood-test markers relate to how lupus manifests and how active it is in each group.
Who can take part? People with SLE who meet the 2019 EULAR/ACR criteria, across different ages, may be eligible. However, people currently taking steroids or immune-suppressing medicines, or who have another inflammatory condition, infection, cancer, or pregnancy, are not eligible. There is no experimental treatment involved—the study will collect information from medical records and perform routine blood tests to look for patterns. It’s an observational study, meaning it just observes and compares what happens in real life, not a test of a new therapy.
