ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is investigating whether using a povidone-iodine solution or a saline solution for washing the surgical area can help reduce the risk of infections after colorectal surgery. Surgical site infections (SSIs) are a common concern after these operations, so the researchers want to see if one method is better than the other in preventing these infections. The study will take place at a large hospital in Southern Brazil and is currently recruiting participants.
To be eligible for this trial, participants must be at least 18 years old and scheduled for a specific type of colorectal surgery, either an open or video-assisted procedure, to treat benign or malignant conditions. Those who are not eligible include individuals under 18, patients needing emergency surgery, or those with allergies to iodine. If you join this study, you will receive either the povidone-iodine or saline solution during your surgery, and the researchers will monitor you afterward to see if there are any infections. This trial aims to find the best way to keep patients safe and healthy after surgery.
