ClinConnect Summary
This study is looking at Jaspr Health, a tablet-based program used in emergency departments to help prevent suicide. It combines an evidence-based suicide risk interview, safety planning, and guidance to reduce dangerous means, plus coping skills videos and other resources. The goal is to see if using Jaspr in the ED helps clinicians deliver proven suicide-prevention care more consistently and supports patients after they leave the ED. It’s a large, real-world evaluation across several hospitals in Colorado and Ohio, with results expected through 2027.
Who can participate and what to expect: Adults 18 years and older who are identified as at risk for suicide on a screening test can be eligible if they can read English (or have someone to read and enter questions for them) and are able to engage with the Jaspr app. People who participate may receive the Jaspr intervention during their ED visit, or may receive usual care without Jaspr, depending on the site. If enrolled, you would use the Jaspr app to complete the risk interview, create a safety plan, and receive counseling about reducing risk and managing distress, with access to coping skills and a library of videos after the visit. Your health information will be used to follow outcomes for up to 12 months. This is currently enrolling by invitation at selected EDs, and the study plans to include up to about 28,000 participants.
