ClinConnect Summary
This study is checking whether a lung ultrasound score, measured in the delivery room within the first 30 minutes after birth, can help predict which newborns might develop breathing problems. It is a single-group, diagnostic study (not testing a treatment). In addition to the initial score, researchers will reassess the ultrasound score at about 2, 6, and 24 hours after birth to see if changes over time better predict how severe any breathing issues could be or whether the baby will need extra help breathing in the hospital. Images are taken with a standard ultrasound probe and may be reviewed on a mobile device as part of the process.
Who can participate? Babies born at Kırıkkale University Faculty of Medicine Hospital who are at least 34 weeks gestation, had a delivery there, and whose parents or guardians give consent. Exclusions include babies born before 34 weeks, deliveries outside the hospital, lack of consent, or the presence of major lung, heart, or birth defects. The study plans to include about 112 newborns and is currently enrolling by invitation, with recruitment starting in March 2024 and estimated to finish around March 2025. There is no experimental treatment involved; this test is used to help doctors predict and plan for possible breathing problems.
