ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how changes in dental check-ups before heart valve surgery might affect the risk of a serious infection called infective endocarditis (IE). In the past, all patients scheduled for surgical valve replacement were required to have a dental screening. Starting in March 2024, this requirement will shift to only targeting certain patients for these screenings. The researchers want to compare the rates of IE in patients before and after this change.
If you or a family member are between the ages of 65 and 74 and are planning to undergo surgical valve replacement, you may be eligible to participate in this study. There are no specific exclusions, so most patients in this situation can join. Participants will be monitored for any signs of infective endocarditis, and the findings will help understand if the new dental screening approach is effective in reducing the risk of this infection. This research could lead to better care and safety for future patients undergoing similar surgeries.
