ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is focused on preventing suicide among Veterans who have recently received mental health treatment in community settings, which are not directly part of the Veterans Affairs (VA) system. The research aims to evaluate a specific approach called the VA Brief Intervention and Contact Program (VA BIC) to see if it can help reduce the risk of suicide after these Veterans leave treatment. This is especially important because many Veterans in this situation are at a high risk for suicide, and there hasn’t been much research on how to support them post-discharge.
To be eligible for this study, participants need to be Veterans who can receive VA services, are at least 18 years old, and can speak English. They must have recently received acute mental health treatment outside of the VA system and have experienced thoughts of suicide. However, those who are unable to give their consent, are currently being treated in a more intensive community program, or have certain serious mental health conditions may not qualify. If enrolled, participants can expect to take part in a program designed to provide support and check-ins after their treatment, which could make a significant difference in their mental health journey. At this time, the trial is not yet recruiting participants.
