ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how spinal anesthesia—a type of pain relief injected near the spine—might affect the heart’s electrical activity in patients having total knee replacement surgery. Specifically, the researchers want to see if spinal anesthesia changes a particular measurement on an ECG, which is a test that records the heart’s electrical signals. They will compare ECG results taken before surgery and within two hours after surgery to look for any significant changes.

The study plans to include about 80 adults between the ages of 45 and 85 who are generally healthy enough for surgery (classified as ASA physical status I-III) and are scheduled for knee replacement with spinal anesthesia. People with certain heart rhythm problems, those who need general anesthesia instead, or those who require intensive care after surgery won’t be able to participate. If you join, you can expect to have a simple ECG test done before surgery and again shortly after, with no extra procedures beyond your planned knee surgery and anesthesia. This study will help doctors understand if spinal anesthesia affects the heart’s electrical patterns, which could improve care and monitoring during surgery in the future.
