ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a new digital program called I-CARE, designed to help young people who come to the emergency room (ER) during a mental health crisis, such as thinking about or attempting suicide. Often, these young people have to wait in the ER for days before they can be admitted to a psychiatric hospital, a situation known as "boarding." This waiting period can be very stressful and challenging, and right now, there aren’t many programs to support them during this time. I-CARE aims to teach helpful coping skills through an easy-to-use digital program, guided by trained helpers who are not mental health professionals.
The study will include young people who are going through this boarding process in the ER. Participants will be randomly assigned to either receive the usual care or to use the I-CARE program along with usual care. If the program works well, it could be used in many hospitals, especially those with fewer resources, to better support youth in crisis. Right now, the trial is not yet recruiting participants, but it is open to all genders within the specified age range. This study could make a big difference in improving care during a very difficult time for young people and their families.
