ClinConnect Summary
This study is an observational research project that collects videos from laparoscopic gallbladder removal (cholecystectomy) to help develop a real-time artificial intelligence (AI) tool. The goal is for the AI to label important anatomy during surgery so surgeons can see dangerous and safe areas as they operate, potentially reducing the chance of bile duct injuries. Researchers will measure how accurately the AI identifies structures and how fast it can process video, with results looked at over about three years.
Who can participate? Adults age 18 and older who are diagnosed by a doctor as needing laparoscopic cholecystectomy and are treated at participating hospitals in China. The study will collect videos and information about the procedure, but people whose videos are blurry or who did not have surgery at the original hospital are not eligible. Participation involves contributing de-identified surgical videos and related data for AI development; there is no additional treatment given as part of this study. The study is currently recruiting at several centers, with an estimated enrollment of 200 prospective cases and 2,000 retrospective cases, and is expected to continue through 2028. If you have questions or want more details, there are listed contacts at the participating sites.
