ClinConnect Summary
The Emphysema Research Registry and Biosample Repository is a study aimed at understanding emphysema and related lung diseases like Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and chronic bronchitis. This research is being conducted by the Comprehensive Lung Center at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. The goal is to gather information from patients who have been diagnosed with emphysema. This includes collecting DNA and other medical data to help researchers learn more about the disease and evaluate new treatments. By creating a registry, the research team can also identify patients who may be interested in participating in future studies.
If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with COPD, you may be eligible to join this study. There are no specific age limits, but participants should be 70 years or older, and they must have a COPD diagnosis based on their medical history or lung tests. There are no exclusions based on other health conditions. If you choose to participate, you can expect to provide some medical information and samples for research purposes, which will help advance our understanding of emphysema and improve treatment options for the future.
