ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is focused on understanding the risk factors that can lead to esophageal cancer, particularly in patients with conditions like Barrett's Esophagus (BE) and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Researchers want to identify things like smoking habits and family health history that might increase the chance of developing these conditions. By collecting detailed information from participants about their health and experiences, the study aims to create a model that can help doctors identify patients at higher risk and develop strategies to reduce that risk.
To participate in this study, you should be a patient at the Kansas City VA Medical Center and have a confirmed diagnosis of Barrett's Esophagus or have symptoms related to GERD. The study is open to both men and women aged 65 to 74. However, if you have serious health issues like heart or lung diseases, or if you're on certain medications that could complicate the study, you may not be eligible. If you choose to join, you can expect to be part of a process that aims to improve understanding and treatment of these serious conditions, and help future patients.
