ClinConnect Summary
The Lebanese Interhospital Pneumococcal Surveillance Program is a clinical trial aimed at understanding which types of the pneumococcus bacteria are causing serious infections like pneumonia, meningitis, and sepsis in Lebanon. Researchers will collect samples from patients of all ages who have been hospitalized with these infections. These samples, taken from blood or spinal fluid, will help the team identify the specific types of bacteria and how they respond to different antibiotics. This information is crucial because it will help determine how effective current vaccines are in preventing these infections, particularly in children.
To participate in this study, patients must have confirmed cases of invasive pneumococcal infections. This includes anyone who has had positive test results from their blood or other sterile body sites. The study is open to individuals of all ages, and samples will be collected from hospitals across Lebanon. By sharing the findings with doctors and the Ministry of Health, the researchers aim to improve health outcomes for patients facing these serious infections.
