ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is looking into whether surgery for primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT) is beneficial for patients over 65 years old who have mild to moderate high calcium levels in their blood. Typically, surgery is recommended for younger patients or those with more severe symptoms, but this study aims to find out if older patients could also gain advantages from surgery, such as stronger bones and a lower risk of fractures.

To participate in the trial, patients must have primary hyperparathyroidism and should not have had previous parathyroid surgery. They also need to be able to understand the information given to them and follow up as required. However, individuals with very low bone density or high levels of calcium in their blood are not eligible. Participants can expect to be monitored closely to see if surgery helps improve their bone health compared to those who do not undergo surgery. Overall, this trial could provide valuable information about the best treatment options for older adults with pHPT.
