ClinConnect Summary
The Cutaneous Lupus Registry is a clinical trial aimed at better understanding cutaneous lupus erythematosus, which is a skin condition that affects many people with systemic lupus erythematosus, a more widespread form of lupus. This study is important because it hopes to gather information from a larger group of patients to identify specific genes and proteins that may play a role in the development of this skin condition. By discovering these genetic links, researchers aim to improve how we diagnose cutaneous lupus, predict how it might progress, and potentially develop new treatments.
To participate in this study, individuals must be at least 18 years old and have a diagnosis of cutaneous lupus erythematosus or systemic lupus erythematosus confirmed through medical tests. Participants should be able to read and speak English or Spanish at a basic level. Throughout the trial, volunteers will undergo a skin biopsy and a blood draw to help researchers collect the necessary information. It’s important to note that those whose lupus symptoms may go away after stopping certain medications or who have other medical conditions that prevent them from having a biopsy are not eligible for this study.
