ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is exploring whether a medication called simvastatin can help protect the heart during certain types of heart surgeries, specifically for patients with congenital heart disease or isolated heart valve disease. Simvastatin is commonly used to lower cholesterol, but researchers believe it might also help reduce heart damage and improve heart function after surgery. The study will involve participants from two medical centers and aims to see if using simvastatin before and after surgery can have long-term benefits for heart health.
To be eligible for this trial, participants must be at least 18 years old and have either congenital heart disease (that is not complex) or isolated heart valve disease. However, individuals with coronary artery disease, those who are allergic to statins, or have liver problems will not be able to participate. If you join this trial, you will receive simvastatin and be monitored to see how it impacts your recovery and heart function after surgery. This study is currently recruiting participants, and everyone is welcome to apply, regardless of gender.
