ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is focused on understanding the genetic causes of Mitral Valve Prolapse (MVP), a heart condition where the mitral valve doesn't close properly. Researchers have already found two new genetic areas on chromosomes 11 and 13 that may be linked to MVP and are looking to study these further. They aim to recruit families who have members with MVP, as well as gather DNA samples from 1,000 to 1,500 individuals affected by this condition. By analyzing this genetic information, the team hopes to discover which genes might be responsible for MVP, which could lead to better treatments and ways to prevent the condition from getting worse in those who are genetically at risk.
If you're between the ages of 65 and 74 and have been diagnosed with Mitral Valve Prolapse, you might be eligible to participate in this study. However, people with other types of mitral valve diseases will not be included. Participants can expect to provide a DNA sample, which will be used to help researchers learn more about the genetics behind MVP. This study is a significant step towards improving our understanding of MVP and the potential ways to manage it effectively.
