ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking into the genetic reasons behind severe obesity that starts in early childhood. The researchers want to learn more about why some children become very overweight before the age of 6. They will enroll children and adults who meet specific criteria, such as having a body mass index (BMI) that is higher than 99% of their peers at a young age. They will collect information about participants' health and eating habits, conduct a quick physical exam, and gather saliva or blood samples for genetic testing. Family members are also welcome to participate in the study.
To be eligible for this study, participants must have been diagnosed with severe obesity before turning 6 years old. However, individuals with known genetic or endocrine causes of obesity, certain medical conditions, or who have undergone specific treatments will not be included. If you or a family member fits the criteria and is interested, you can expect to answer some questions and provide samples to help researchers understand the genetic factors related to early childhood obesity better.
