ClinConnect Summary
The DISCOVER Study is a clinical trial that is exploring a new tool to help eye surgeons during operations on various retinal conditions, like retinal detachment and macular holes. This tool, called optical coherence tomography (OCT), provides detailed images of the eye’s structure, which can be very helpful for surgeons. Unlike traditional OCT devices that are separate from the surgical microscope, this new device is built right into the microscope, allowing surgeons to see these important images without losing focus on the surgery. The goal is to see if this integrated approach can make surgeries more efficient and improve outcomes for patients.
To participate in this study, you must be an adult aged 18 or older who is scheduled for eye surgery. Unfortunately, younger individuals and those who may not be able to understand or consent to the study due to cognitive challenges cannot take part. If you join the study, you can expect to have your surgery performed with this advanced microscope-integrated OCT system, which may help the surgeon make better-informed decisions during the procedure. Overall, this trial aims to enhance surgical techniques and improve care for patients facing retinal diseases.
