ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, titled "Objective Assessment of Behavioral Associations of Patients With Dementia," is studying how to better understand and manage outbursts of difficult behaviors in patients with dementia. Many people with dementia experience sudden outbursts that can be challenging for caregivers and often require moving the patient to a care facility. The researchers want to see if measuring the electrical activity of the skin can help predict these outbursts. If they can find a way to identify signs of agitation early, caregivers may be able to intervene and prevent these behaviors, allowing patients to stay at home longer.
To participate in this study, patients need to be admitted to a dementia unit at the Bedford VAMC and be able to cooperate with the skin measurements. The trial is currently recruiting participants of all ages and genders. If someone joins the study, they can expect to have their skin's electrical activity monitored in a comfortable setting. The goal is to gather information that could lead to future interventions to help manage these challenging behaviors.
