ClinConnect Summary
The SVS VQI TransCarotid Revascularization Surveillance Project is a clinical trial aimed at studying a new, less-invasive surgical procedure for treating carotid artery disease. This procedure involves placing a stent, a small tube that keeps the artery open, directly into the carotid artery while temporarily reversing blood flow to help reduce the risk of stroke. The trial will compare the safety and effectiveness of this new method, called TransCarotid Artery Revascularization (TCAR), with a traditional surgery known as carotid endarterectomy (CEA).
The trial is currently recruiting participants aged 65 to 74, regardless of gender, who are undergoing either TCAR or CEA. Eligible patients include those who are considered standard or high surgical risk, according to specific guidelines. However, patients who have had a previous stent placed in the same artery cannot participate. If you join the trial, you will be monitored closely to ensure your safety and to gather important information about how well the new procedure works compared to the standard method. This study could help improve treatment options for future patients with carotid artery disease.
