ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how bariatric surgery affects the way our bodies respond to different tastes. Researchers want to understand how taste sensations in the stomach influence the brain before and after the surgery. To do this, they will give participants different substances, like sugar and flavoring, and then take pictures of their brains using a special scan called functional MRI. This will help them see how the brain reacts to tastes in people who are severely overweight.
To be eligible for this study, you need to be an adult who is morbidly obese, meaning your body mass index (BMI) is 35 or higher, and you should be scheduled for bariatric surgery. Participants must also be right-handed and free from certain health issues, like heart disease or serious mental health disorders. If you join the study, you can expect to undergo some tests and scans both before and three months after your surgery to see how your taste perception and brain function may change. This research could help improve our understanding of how weight loss affects taste and overall health.
