ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how certain genes related to energy use and cell function are affected by obesity in patients undergoing heart surgery. Specifically, it looks at how these genes might behave differently in obese and non-obese patients when they have a procedure called coronary artery bypass grafting, which helps improve blood flow to the heart. The researchers want to understand if the way these genes are regulated could help explain the "obesity paradox," where some obese patients seem to do better after heart surgery than expected.
To participate in this study, patients must be adults with a history of irregular heartbeats (like atrial fibrillation). However, those with certain health issues, such as severe kidney problems, inflammatory diseases, or those who are pregnant, will not be eligible. If you join the trial, you can expect to provide information about your health and undergo tests to help researchers gather data on how obesity affects heart surgery outcomes. This research could help improve care for patients in the future!
