ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, called SEA-HD, aims to create a local database and DNA bank specifically for children with congenital heart defects in the south-eastern region of France. Congenital heart defects are heart problems that are present at birth, affecting about 5,000 newborns each year in France. Understanding the genetic causes of these defects is important, but currently, there isn’t a local facility to collect and study the required DNA samples. By setting up this local DNA bank, researchers hope to gain better insights into the genetic factors that contribute to these conditions.
To participate in this study, children must have a diagnosed congenital heart defect as determined by an echocardiogram (a special heart ultrasound) and need to have a blood test as part of their usual medical care at the AP-HM Timone Hospital in Marseille. However, pregnant women, individuals who cannot understand or provide consent, and certain other groups are not eligible. If your child participates, they will be contributing to a valuable resource that could help improve our understanding of congenital heart diseases, potentially benefiting future patients.
