ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is designed to understand the best way to treat patients with acute cholecystitis, which is an inflammation of the gallbladder that can be very painful. The researchers want to compare two different methods: one called percutaneous cholecystostomy, where a tube is placed to drain the gallbladder, and another called percutaneous gallbladder aspiration, which involves removing fluid from the gallbladder without leaving a drain. By comparing these two methods, they hope to find out which one is more effective for patients who don't need immediate surgery.
To participate in this trial, you would need to be between the ages of 65 and 74 and diagnosed with acute cholecystitis that does not require urgent surgery. Some health conditions, like liver problems, certain types of pancreatitis, and signs of possible cancer, would prevent you from participating. If you join the trial, you will be randomly assigned to one of the two treatment groups, and neither you nor your doctors will know which treatment you are receiving until the study is completed. This helps ensure the results are fair and unbiased. The trial is not yet recruiting participants, but it aims to provide valuable insights into better treatment options for acute cholecystitis.
