ClinConnect Summary
The Shanghai Pediatric Cataract Study is looking into how well children with cataracts see after they have surgery. This study includes children with cataracts that are present at birth (congenital cataracts) and those caused by injury (traumatic cataracts). Researchers want to understand not only the outcomes of the surgery but also the genetic and environmental factors that might lead to cataracts in children.
To participate in this study, children must have a clinical diagnosis of pediatric cataract and be able to cooperate during eye exams. However, children with mental illnesses or disabilities are not eligible to join. Those who take part can expect regular eye examinations and follow-ups to track their visual progress over time. The study is currently recruiting participants, so it’s a good opportunity for families affected by pediatric cataracts to contribute to important research.
