ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying two different methods of draining blood that can build up in the brain after a serious condition called subarachnoid hemorrhage, which occurs when an aneurysm (a weak spot in a blood vessel) bursts. The two methods being compared are called extraventricular drain (EVD) and lumbar drain (LD). The goal is to find out which method is better at preventing complications known as vasospasm, which can lead to severe neurological problems or even death. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two treatment groups and monitored to see if one method helps reduce the amount of blood in the brain, shortens their stay in the intensive care unit, and lowers the need for additional treatments.
To be eligible for this study, participants must be adults aged 18 and older who have been diagnosed with certain grades of subarachnoid hemorrhage or have clear evidence of an aneurysm-related bleed. Unfortunately, younger patients (under 18) are not able to participate. If someone chooses to join the trial, they can expect close monitoring and care as doctors work to determine the best way to manage and treat this serious condition, which could help improve outcomes for future patients facing similar issues.
