ClinConnect Summary
This trial is studying endoluminal (through-the-mouth) treatments for gastrointestinal conditions, with a focus on achalasia (trouble swallowing due to esophagus muscle problems) and problems that can occur after weight‑loss surgery, such as gastric/pouch fistulas. It looks at newer, less invasive endoscopic options like POEM and other endoluminal repair techniques to see how well they work compared with traditional surgery. The study is being conducted at the University of California, Davis, and is led by Dr. Mohamed R. Ali. No results are reported yet in the summary you provided.
Eligible participants are adults aged 18 through 80 who have gastrointestinal issues that may require surgery, including achalasia, GERD, Barrett’s esophagus, post-bariatric surgery problems, or related fistulas. If you’re considering this study, you would first learn about all treatment choices—surgery and endoscopic options—and decide whether to participate. If you enroll, you may receive an endoscopic treatment as part of the study, and researchers will follow your symptoms to see how they change. The main goal is to see if endoscopic therapies reduce reflux‑related distress within 3–6 months and whether achalasia symptoms improve about 30 days after treatment. The trial is ongoing and not randomized, with results not yet available here.
