ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how strengthening a specific muscle in the hand, called the first dorsal interosseous (FDI), can help people with thumb osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis in the thumb can cause pain and make it difficult to use your hand for everyday activities. The goal of the study is to see if exercises to strengthen this muscle can improve hand function and reduce discomfort in patients who already use a splint for their condition.
To participate in the trial, you need to be at least 18 years old, speak English, and be currently using a splint for thumb osteoarthritis. Unfortunately, if you have rheumatoid arthritis or have received a corticosteroid injection for your thumb condition recently, you won't be eligible. If you join the study, you can expect to participate in exercises designed to strengthen your hand muscles, and researchers will monitor your progress to see how it helps with your symptoms. This trial is currently recruiting participants of all genders between the ages of 18 and 74.
