ClinConnect Summary
The Jiaxing Birth Cohort (JBC) study is a large research project taking place in the Jiaxing area of China. It aims to understand how certain factors during pregnancy and early childhood feeding practices affect children's growth and health, specifically looking at issues like childhood obesity and anemia. Between 1999 and 2013, over 338,000 mother-child pairs were enrolled, and researchers followed up with these families at various stages from the child's infancy up to around age 7. This helps them gather important information about how children develop during these early years.
To participate in this study, mothers need to be pregnant and have received care at a local hospital in Jiaxing. They should be willing to follow the study’s schedule and keep in touch with researchers about their child's health. Those who are not interested or who have complications like a stillbirth are not eligible. Participants can expect regular follow-up appointments where their child's growth and health will be monitored, helping researchers learn more about the factors that influence childhood health in their community.
