ClinConnect Summary
This study, called Visual Attention and Eye Movements, is an observational research project at the University of Rochester. Researchers are looking at how eye movements and attention interact to shape what we perceive, using simple visual tasks while your eye movements are measured with noninvasive tracking. About 20 healthy adults ages 18–65 with corrected-to-normal vision will be invited to participate. You would not receive a drug or treatment, and you must have normal or corrected vision and no known visual or hearing disorders to be eligible.
If you take part, you’ll come to the lab where you’ll sit in a dim room and view a computer screen about a meter away. Your head will be kept still with a chin rest or bite bar, and an infrared eye tracker will monitor your eye movements during a series of tasks—each session will include hundreds of trials (500+). The researchers want to see how peripheral motion affects smooth eye tracking when you move your eyes toward a stimulus. This is basic, non-drug research aimed at understanding perception and attention, with potential future implications for vision science. The study began in 2017 and plans to complete around September 2025; enrollment is currently by invitation.
