ClinConnect Summary
The Youth Experiences and Health Study is a research project aimed at understanding early signs of serious mental health issues, particularly psychotic disorders, in young people. This study will focus on identifying unusual experiences and mental health symptoms that could indicate a higher risk for developing severe mental illnesses. Researchers will create a new set of questionnaires that are easy to use and cost-effective for screening adolescents entering psychiatric care. They will gather information from a large group of young people in Finland to see how well these questionnaires can predict mental health outcomes over the next few years.
To be eligible for this study, participants must be between the ages of 14 to 18 and starting care at an adolescent mental health clinic. However, those who have been previously diagnosed with a psychotic disorder will not be included. If teens join the study, they can expect to complete questionnaires about their experiences and symptoms, which will help researchers better understand mental health in young people and ultimately improve care and support for them.
