ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how to better manage electrographic seizures in critically ill children. Electrographic seizures are a type of seizure that can be detected using a special test called EEG (electroencephalogram). These seizures are common in patients in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and the study aims to understand which children are most at risk for having them. Researchers will track these patients to identify risk factors and develop models that help healthcare providers monitor those at the highest risk effectively. Additionally, the trial will evaluate the safety of the current treatments used for managing these seizures.
To be eligible for this study, participants must be between 1 month and 18 years old and receiving care in the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's Pediatric ICU with a need for continuous EEG monitoring. However, children who are expected to stop receiving life support in the next two days or are admitted for special EEG monitoring will not be included. Families participating in the trial can expect to provide information about their child's condition while researchers observe how well the current seizure management strategies work for their child. This research is important for improving care and outcomes for children with seizures in critical situations.
