ClinConnect Summary
Researchers at the University of Iowa are testing a new portable bladder pressure monitor that attaches to a standard urinary catheter. They want to see if the pressure readings from this device are as accurate as the current gold standard test called urodynamics (UDS), which doctors use to measure how the bladder stores and releases urine. If successful, the device might help with easier or future home monitoring of bladder pressure.
Who can participate? The study is for people with neurogenic bladder who are already having UDS as part of their regular care. It includes children and adults up to about 99 years old. About 100 people may enroll, and participation is by invitation. This is an investigative study (not a treatment) being conducted during the usual UDS test to compare the new device’s readings with the standard measurements. The study takes place at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, and the device is not yet approved for general use.
