ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the best way to treat intra-abdominal abscesses, which are pockets of infection in the abdomen that can be drained to help the body heal. Currently, doctors use a combination of draining the abscess and giving antibiotics through the bloodstream. In this trial, researchers want to see if flushing the drain with a stronger antibiotic solution instead of regular saline (saltwater) can improve healing. The antibiotics being tested are Gentamicin and Clindamycin.
To participate in this trial, individuals must be between the ages of 65 and 74 or 29 and 219, have an intra-abdominal abscess that can be drained with a catheter, and be receiving systemic antibiotics. Participants will receive either the stronger antibiotic solution or normal saline through their drains. The trial is currently looking for volunteers, and it’s important for potential participants to understand that this study aims to find a better treatment option for abscesses, which could lead to improved recovery for patients in the future.
