ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the use of a medication called gabapentin to see if it can help reduce pain after a tonsillectomy (surgery to remove the tonsils) in children and teenagers. The goal is to find out if giving gabapentin before surgery can lower the amount of pain medicine needed afterward, help kids feel better faster, and reduce their pain scores during the first couple of days after the operation.
To participate in this study, children between the ages of 3 and 18 who are scheduled for elective tonsillectomy or adenoidectomy and are generally healthy (classified as ASA class 1 or 2) may be eligible. Participants will receive either gabapentin or a placebo (a non-active treatment) before their surgery and will be monitored for their pain levels and how much pain medicine they need in the first 48 hours after the operation. This study is currently recruiting participants, and it's important for families to know that those with certain conditions, like obesity or a history of kidney problems, will not be included in the trial.
