ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, titled "Localization and Mismatch Negativity," is studying how people with different types of hearing loss, including those with deafness in one ear or those who have received a cochlear implant (a device that helps with hearing), process sounds and localize where they come from. Researchers want to understand how the brain responds to sounds in these individuals compared to people with normal hearing. The study will involve various tests, including brain wave measurements and listening exercises, to see how well participants can identify where sounds are coming from and how well they can understand speech in noisy environments.
To participate, individuals need to be between the ages of 65 and 74 and have some form of hearing loss or be normal hearers. They must also have health insurance and be willing to sign a consent form. People with certain medical histories, such as neurological disorders or those taking specific medications, will not be eligible. Participants can expect to take part in a series of assessments that will help researchers gather information about sound processing in their brains and improve understanding of hearing loss.
