ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying two common problems that can happen after heart surgery in older adults: postoperative delirium (POD) and postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD). POD is a sudden confusion that can occur after surgery, while POCD refers to difficulties with thinking and memory that can last longer. Both conditions can lead to serious issues for patients, so understanding what causes them is important for improving care.
To be eligible for this trial, participants must be 65 years or older and scheduled to undergo open heart surgery with the help of a heart-lung machine. People who cannot communicate or have severe vision or hearing problems will not be included. While participating, individuals can expect to be monitored closely for signs of POD and POCD, helping researchers learn more about how to prevent these issues in the future. The trial is currently active but not recruiting new participants, so it's important to check back later if you or a loved one is interested.
