ClinConnect Summary
The CORDMILK follow-up trial is looking at how two different methods of handling the umbilical cord at birth affect the development of babies who were not strong at birth due to a lack of oxygen. Specifically, the trial compares umbilical cord milking (which helps to get more blood to the baby) with early cord clamping (which stops blood flow sooner) in babies who were born full-term or late preterm. The researchers want to see how these methods influence the babies' growth and brain development when they are 22 to 26 months old.
To participate in this study, babies need to have been part of the earlier CORDMILK trial and should have shown signs of being non-vigorous at birth. There are no additional exclusions, meaning most babies who meet these criteria can join. Families who take part will help researchers learn more about the best ways to support the health and development of newborns who experience difficulties right at birth. This trial is currently recruiting participants, and your involvement could contribute to important findings for future infants.
