ClinConnect Summary
The clinical trial titled "Recovery From ICUAW Following Severe Respiratory and Cardiac Failure" is studying how patients recover from weakness caused by spending time in the intensive care unit (ICU) after experiencing serious heart and lung issues that required a special treatment called ECMO. This trial aims to understand what factors help or hinder recovery from this weakness and how it affects patients' physical abilities and overall quality of life after being critically ill.
To be eligible for this trial, participants must be adults over 18 years old who have experienced severe respiratory or cardiac failure and needed ECMO support. The study is currently looking for volunteers, and anyone who joins can expect to be observed and have their recovery tracked over time. It's important to note that individuals with certain conditions, like a history of strokes or specific neuromuscular diseases, will not be able to participate. This trial seeks to provide valuable insights that could improve recovery for future patients facing similar health challenges.
