ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how certain medications used during breast surgery may affect a patient’s brain function after the procedure. Specifically, it aims to see if changes in thinking and memory, measured before and after surgery, are related to the amounts of propofol and remifentanil (medications used to keep patients asleep and pain-free during surgery) in the body. The researchers will also look at other monitoring values taken during the surgery to see if they have any connection to cognitive changes.

This study is currently recruiting women aged 65 to 74 who will be having breast surgery under general anesthesia with propofol and remifentanil. To participate, patients must use a special airway device called a laryngeal mask during surgery. However, those with certain neurological conditions or unstable blood pressure during surgery cannot take part. Participants can expect to undergo some cognitive tests before and after their surgery to help the researchers understand any potential effects on their thinking skills.
