ClinConnect Summary
The "Psychosocial, Environmental, and Chronic Disease Trends in Puerto Rico" study, also known as PROSPECT, is a research project aimed at understanding how various factors related to mental health, lifestyle, and diet influence heart disease and other chronic illnesses in adults living in Puerto Rico. The goal is to gather information that can help improve public health and reduce health disparities related to heart disease on the island. The study will involve 2,000 adults aged 30 to 75, who will be followed for two years. Researchers will collect information through surveys and medical records, looking at differences between urban and rural areas and examining changes before and after Hurricane Maria.
To participate in this study, individuals must be between 30 and 75 years old, live in Puerto Rico, and be able to answer questions on their own. They should have a stable home and not plan to move away from the island in the next three years. Participants can expect to answer questions about their health, lifestyle, and stress, and their information will help researchers better understand the health challenges faced by the community. This study could lead to important findings that benefit public health efforts in Puerto Rico.
